A house fire in the 9300 block of Haywain Court caused an estimated $110,000 in property and content damage Friday, Aug. 28, after a battery-powered leaf blower failed on the front porch.
Charlotte Fire received the call at 5:17 a.m., according to the department's post on X. Engine 34 arrived within minutes and found heavy fire showing from the front porch, with the fire extending into the attic.
Multiple additional Charlotte Fire crews responded to the scene and began fire attack and search operations. Primary and secondary searches confirmed no one was inside the home at the time.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 5:49 a.m., roughly 32 minutes after the initial call.
No civilians or firefighters were injured.
The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force determined the fire originated on the front porch. Investigators identified the cause as a failure involving a battery-powered leaf blower stored on the porch, the department stated.
The department's statement did not provide additional detail on what type of battery failure occurred or the make and model of the leaf blower.
Four people were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those residents, according to Charlotte Fire's statement.
