CMPD officers made 129 traffic stops and issued 71 citations during a recent enforcement operation in the department's South Division, which covers the Ballantyne area.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's DWI Task Force led the effort, called "Operation Safe Roads." CMPD announced the results Wednesday, Sept. 2, on its official X account.

Speeding was the top offense, accounting for 38 citations. Officers also cited drivers for operating without a seatbelt, driving without a license, driving on a revoked license and driving while impaired. Three DWI citations were issued, plus one DWI involving a driver under 21.

The operation drew officers from across CMPD's divisions and included assistance from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. CMPD said the initiative responded to neighborhood concerns about speeding, racing, loud mufflers and other traffic complaints.

CMPD said the operation delivered significant results for road safety in the area. The department did not specify which streets were targeted or release dates for the operation itself beyond the Sept. 2 announcement.
