The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has identified the man killed in a Labor Day night shooting on Marvin Road as Dailan Chinchilla Gonzalez, 23.
CMPD officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, in the 3400 block of Marvin Road in the Providence Division, according to a department news release. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound. A medic pronounced him dead at the scene.
The department released Chinchilla Gonzalez's name on Tuesday, Sept. 8, after notifying his next of kin.
No suspect has been named.
CMPD said the investigation is active and ongoing. Detective Moran is the lead investigator assigned to the case.
The department's Homicide Unit and crime scene investigators collected evidence at the scene. CMPD's Victim Services unit also responded.
The Charlotte Observer reported the shooting took place on a dead-end street in the Grier Heights area of southeast Charlotte. WBTV reported the block sits near North Wendover Road. The area is several miles north of Ballantyne but falls within the Providence Division's patrol boundaries, which cover much of south Charlotte.
The shooting came one day before a separate fatal shooting was reported on Archdale Drive on Tuesday, Sept. 8, as we reported Wednesday. Both cases remain under investigation in the Providence and South divisions.
