A machinery failure caused a commercial building fire in the 8500 block of Hankins Road on Wednesday, Sept. 2, resulting in $130,000 in damage but no injuries.

The Charlotte Fire Department said its investigators determined the blaze was accidental. The department did not identify the specific type of machinery involved or name the business at the address.

Engine 28, the first unit on scene, found fire showing from the roof of the building. A total of 45 firefighters responded and brought the fire under control in 39 minutes.

The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force handled the cause determination. The investigation is closed, according to the department's final update. No follow-up inspections or hearings were announced.
