Two Charlotte brothers now face a combined 190 criminal charges tied to shootings, robberies and vehicle thefts. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) announced the charges Friday, Sept. 11.

Dionte McCracking, 28, and Jatarius McCracking, 27, are both held without bond in Mecklenburg County jail. The charges span Mecklenburg and York counties and include motor vehicle theft, breaking and entering, possession of stolen vehicles, possession of a firearm by a felon, shooting into an occupied dwelling and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, according to QC News.

Dionte McCracking faces 62 charges filed since July 27, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. That charge stems from a Wednesday, Sept. 9 shooting in the 1200 block of Enderly Road in west Charlotte, where a CMPD officer responding to a suspicious vehicle call was shot in the right shoulder. The officer is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, WCNC reported.

Court documents obtained by WSOC-TV show Dionte McCracking was wearing a ski mask and holding an angle grinder near damaged power lines when the officer arrived. He ran, was tackled, and during the struggle allegedly tried to shoot the officer in the head. The round struck the officer's right shoulder.

The officer did not return fire. A bystander provided care before paramedics arrived.

Investigators recovered three shell casings at the scene and later found a 9mm handgun at a residence on Coronet Way. A witness identified it as the weapon used in the shooting, according to court documents.

Dionte McCracking was arrested Thursday, Sept. 10 after a standoff lasting more than seven hours at an apartment on Kings Ridge Drive in south Charlotte. A judge denied bond on the officer-shooting charges Thursday, Sept. 10 but set two separate $150,000 bonds on burglary cases. State corrections records cited by the Charlotte Observer show his criminal history dates to 2013, including convictions for larceny, breaking and entering, speeding to elude arrest and firearm possession by a felon. He was released from incarceration in June 2024 on firearm charges and placed on probation until March 2025, according to state Department of Adult Corrections records. He was on pre-trial release at the time of the Wednesday, Sept. 9 officer shooting, WCCB reported.

His brother, Jatarius McCracking, faces 128 charges. CMPD's Crime Gun Suppression Team arrested him Sept. 2 at a residence in the 3000 block of Queen City Drive. At the time, he was on post-release supervision for a prior conviction of shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to WSOC-TV. Detectives seized a stolen firearm and work gloves matching several motor vehicle theft cases during the arrest.

CMPD said detectives identified connections across multiple crimes on Aug. 27. Firearms linked to an Aug. 22 armed robbery and assault investigation also matched three additional August shooting investigations. The brothers are tied to shootings into homes on Reliance Street on Aug. 26 and Sept. 1 and on Irma Street on Aug. 26, according to CMPD incident reports cited by WCNC.

CMPD Chief Estella Patterson said in a statement Friday that the Crime Gun Suppression Team, established in 2021 to combat rising gun violence, played a central role in the investigation. Patterson said the brothers' offenses were heavily focused on property crime but noted how quickly such actions can escalate to violence, as they allegedly did with the attempted murder of a CMPD officer, according to WSOC-TV.

At a Wednesday, Sept. 9 news conference after the officer shooting, Patterson said there had been three separate incidents in which officers were shot at in the nine days before the Enderly Road shooting, calling it unacceptable, WFAE reported.
