Kids and parents looking for a free weekend outing can explore fire trucks, bulldozers and police vehicles expected to be on display Saturday, Sept. 26, at Mecklenburg County's annual Touch-a-Truck event.
Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling hosts the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Compost Central Disposal & Recycling Center, 140 Valleydale Rd. in Charlotte. No registration is required.
Admission is free.
The event brings together large vehicles and heavy equipment from the county's Solid Waste department and other local agencies, including police and fire departments, according to a county news release. Attendees can get behind the wheel of equipment they might otherwise only see from a distance.
Beyond the vehicles, families can tour the Compost Central facility to see how the site processes waste and recyclables. Food vendors will be on site.
The event also ran in 2025, according to the county. It runs rain or shine.
