A person was shot and hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Sunday evening, Sept. 13, in the 110 block of Kings Branch Way in south Charlotte.
The shooting happened near Archdale Flats apartments off Nations Ford Road. Medic, the county's emergency medical services agency, received a gunshot wound call shortly before 6:30 p.m. and transported the victim from the scene, Queen City News reported.
No information about the victim's identity, a suspect description or what led to the shooting had been released as of Sunday evening.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department had not issued a public statement on the incident as of Monday, Sept. 14. CMPD's South Division covers the Kings Branch Way area.
Fourth south Charlotte shooting in nine days
The Kings Branch Way shooting marks the fourth reported shooting with life-threatening or fatal injuries in south Charlotte since Sept. 5.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, Elliot Rukwan Butler, 31, was shot and killed at an apartment complex on Mereview Court near Quail Hollow shortly before 3 a.m., according to a CMPD homicide investigation notice. Detective Kennedy was assigned to the case. CMPD Major Ryan Kendall asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers, WBTV reported.
Three days later, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, one person was shot and killed in the 6200 block of Park Road near Archdale Drive, according to Queen City News. Medic paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
On Friday, Sept. 11, another person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting before 5 a.m. in the 5800 block of Old Providence Road, Queen City News reported.
Citywide crime context
CMPD's midyear 2026 public safety update, released in July, showed overall crime across Charlotte down 16% and violent crime down 8% in the first half of the year compared to 2025. Homicides held roughly steady at 40 cases versus 39 the year before, according to WCNC's reporting on the update. The update identified deadly conflicts and youth gun violence as ongoing concerns.
